My Values
Selecting the right coach is a very personalised thing. Finding the right fit is not straightforward.
Below are the four values from which I work. These will provide you a chance to get to know me at a deeper level. And gain an appreciation for how I work, and the results we can achieve together.
If these align with you, it might be time to reach out and connect for a conversation. You can do that by clicking here
If they don’t resonate with you, great. You’ve saved yourself a heap of time and I hope seen the power of starting relationships with value. I sincerely hope you find what you’re looking for.
BE EXCELLENT
As a kid I never felt understood. I loved mountain biking. My parents wanted me to focus on becoming a cellist.
When I got on my bike, I wanted to go as fast and as far as I could. That drive to see how good I could be, and what adventures I could create have never left me.
My work and the partners I work best with share this deepseated desire to be exceptional. They are deeply driven, and often criticised for their obsession.
In life I love stumbling across people who are utterly obsessive about their craft. Recently I met someone who loved Huon Pine wood. He encouraged me to smell a piece he had in his garage with great vigour. It was ok, but not my jam. What I loved was his passion.
My craft is about helping you become an Elite Executive. Someone who can operate at their best, at the very top of their industry or area. When we partner together I become your ally in you becoming exceptional. The challenge most top leaders face is that what made them great doesn’t always translate to the “new job”.
To achieve excellence, whilst I am not unfriendly, I am not here to be your friend. Instead I see a coach as much more than that.
Excellence demands a continual, relentless commitment to raising the bar. My job is to help you raise it on yourself. Rising to become the distinction of excellence you envision.
I became an Army Officer upon leaving school. Whilst I quickly learnt the army was not for me, I loved the exacting standards and refreshing transparency it provided around performance. It was also the first place I got “schooled” on leadership, and I have been a student ever since.
We are of course all human, fallible, prone to misstep, bouts of poor judgement and frequent failures. None of these preclude you from being Elite. Greatness awaits those who dream big, continue to refine and never waiver in the face of defeat. I firmly believe god would have never given you the dream if he didn’t think you could do it.
A commitment to excellence requires a holistic approach. Few leaders I meet want a thriving business but a family life which is painful inadequate. Equally being exceptional in business requires a commitment which in turns impacts our families.
As we work together we will measure what matters to you - family, personal, business and whatever else. And then piece together the puzzle towards your excellence.
INNOVATE
I get bored easily and suffer from shiny object syndrome. Channelled in the wrong direction this can make for a very distracted person.
Channelled constructively, I’ve found this to drive innovation, and fire up my “don’t tell me it can’t be done” spirit.
I am obsessed studying high performance sport, military and elite operators. Understanding the ways, the approaches, and mentality they cultivate to deliver under extreme pressure I adore. I find these teams provide incredibly rich lessons and roadmap for Elite Executives.
In the pursuit of excellence we must always lean into the changing nature of our world. Whilst there of course remains timeless principles - we live in a time of technological capability which in many cases justifies ripping up the old rule book.
That said, at an Executive level strong innovation must be met with strong scepticism. Just because it is new, doesn’t make it better. And not everything old should be thrown out.
ALWAYS HONESTY
The two most important qualities a leader requires are the trust and respect of those that follow them.
Without frank honesty between parties - Excellence, Innovation or even workability become impossible.
For me it wasn’t always this way. Early in my career I found I used misinformation as a way to “soften the blow”. My first coach Frank cut through this early and this has become a hallmark of my work.
Frank showed me that is better to be real always. Even if the message is difficult, hard to hear or even guaranteed to rock the boat. To quote Martin Luther King: “The time is always right to do the right thing”.
Honesty requires courage. Confronting conversations and a willingness to hurt feelings in service of enabling excellence and advancement.
When working with partners this is an agreed upon benchmark alignment that they too are required to meet.
Dishonesty comes with a high price.Whilst it can appear to be the easy path initially - the damage, distance and uneasiness it creates is often impossible to undo. This has been the downfall of many great leaders who become strangled by their own integrity.
Being a leader who is honest, cultivates character. Success with character is a recipe for legends.
WITH DISCRETION
Technology has brought us many advancements, but our privacy is the great casualty.
In my work I access and work with the elite of the elite. Our conversations require an openness that you will unlikely have with any other.
I learn things and provide space to discuss topics long before shareholders, Presidents, teams and partners (romantic and business) even get a look in.
In this light, we operate a strict privacy and confidentiality protocol. Information and conversations are held using secure technology with market leading protection.
This is all in providing a uniquely safe space for our partners. A chance to be fully themselves, without concern, or fear of retribution. It is a chance to unload, unpack and be. A chance to think openly no matter the topic or context.
